2023 the Journey Continues…

“The cinema is really built for the big screen and big sound, so that a person can go into another world and have an experience. You don’t get that anywhere else.”
David Lynch

Hello 2023! It’s a new year, KANASHIMI is complete and awaiting its festival debut.

Quite a lot has happened since my last blog post to share some random thoughts and musings….a few big things have happened. For starters, we moved to Bend, Oregon. I wish I could say that my unbridled passion for filmmaking was enough to support my family and pay the bills and perhaps one day it will, but for now I’m grateful for the work opportunities that have come my way. I was offered a job with Sony Playstation to be the in-house filmmaker for the studio up here in beautiful Bend. So far we are loving it and embracing the Pacific Northwest lifestyle - including all the snow!

As the first waves of Covid were subsiding over a year ago, I started to realize that I don’t need to live in Los Angeles to do this work. Especially nowadays with everything on zoom and Teams meetings. Sure if I need to go to LA for work, I can do that easily, or to shoot a film, easy, but I don’t need to reside there and raise my family there.

Before 2023 got underway, we had a fantastic cast and crew screening at the Laemmle Royal Theater in Los Angeles. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the finishing of the film and sharing it with everyone that supported our crowd-funding efforts and participated in the making of the production.

I realized my last blog-post was shamefully almost a year ago, before last years Oscars and we are now just a few weeks away from this years Oscar nominations being announced. For obvious reasons I’m a big fan of The Fabelman’s and would be thrilled to see one of my all time favorites win another Academy Award for telling such a beautiful, haunting and personal story. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it. Is it Spielberg’s best film, its certainly up there but its definitely one of his most poignant if not special.

Finally, as we await emails and answers from festivals for KANASHIMI, I am starting to think about a new story and writing a feature. Living up here in Oregon has in many ways re-ignited my creativity and reminded me that there are always new ways to tell stories. Stay tuned for festival updates and more news and as always thank you for following this journey with me.
